- **Target mileage**: 30,000–50,000 miles
- **Max previous owners**: 2

## Why this model

The Suzuki Celerio is a fantastic little city car if you're looking for something incredibly cheap to run, easy to park, and surprisingly spacious for its size. It's known for its bulletproof reliability, which means fewer unexpected repair bills. While it's not going to win any races, its 1.0-litre engine is peppy enough for urban driving and sips fuel. It's a no-frills car, but it does the basics exceptionally well, making it a solid, sensible choice for a first car or a second family runabout.

## What you should pay

For a 2019-2020 Celerio, prices have stabilised nicely after the initial depreciation hit. You're looking at a sweet spot where you get a relatively modern car without paying the new car premium. Prices are very competitive, especially compared to rivals like the Picanto or i10, offering great value for money. Expect to pay a bit more for lower mileage or higher trims, but the core value proposition remains strong.

## Which trim to buy

The SZ3 trim hits the sweet spot for value. While the entry-level SZ2 is fine if you just need basic transport, the SZ3 adds essential creature comforts like air conditioning, alloy wheels, and DAB radio, which significantly improve the daily driving experience without a huge jump in price. The top-spec SZ4 adds a few more luxuries but often isn't worth the extra cost on the used market compared to the SZ3's excellent balance of features and affordability.

## What to check before you buy

- Clutch wear (especially in city driving, check for smooth engagement)
- Brake issues (some early models had recall-related issues, ensure service history shows checks/fixes)
- Interior plastics can show wear and tear easily

## Running costs

Running costs are where the Celerio truly shines. Fuel economy is excellent, often achieving 55-60 mpg in real-world driving, which at current petrol prices (around £1.45/litre) works out to about 12.7 pence per mile. Road tax (VED) for a 2019 model is £160 per year. Insurance groups are very low (typically 7-10), meaning affordable premiums for most drivers. Servicing and parts are also inexpensive, contributing to very low overall running costs.

## Key stats

- **Horsepower**: 67 bhp
- **Mpg**: 65.7 (combined official)
- **Reliability Score**: Excellent, Suzuki consistently ranks high for reliability.
- **Safety Rating**: 3-star Euro NCAP (2014)

## Trim comparison

| Trim | Price new | Price used | Key features |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| SZ2 | £8,000 | £5,800 | CD Tuner; DAB Radio; USB/Aux-in |
| SZ3 | £9,500 | £6,900 | Air Conditioning; 14-inch Alloy Wheels; Bluetooth Connectivity |
| SZ4 | £10,500 | £7,500 | Rear Parking Sensors; Polished Alloy Wheels; Body Coloured Door Mirrors |

## Depreciation forecast

| Year | Estimated value | Retention |
| --- | --- | --- |
| 2026 | £6,750 | 100% |
| 2027 | £6,000 | 89% |
| 2028 | £5,400 | 80% |
| 2029 | £4,900 | 73% |
| 2030 | £4,500 | 67% |

The Celerio, being a budget-friendly car, experiences its steepest depreciation in the first few years. By buying a 2019 model in 2026, you're past that initial drop. The car's value will continue to decline, but at a much slower rate in absolute terms, making it a very cost-effective purchase with minimal further depreciation loss over the next few years.

Total value lost since new: 29%.
