## Verdict

- **Best value year**: 2011
- **Ideal trim**: Acenta
- **Target mileage**: 50,000–70,000 miles
- **Max previous owners**: 4
- **Target price**: £2,800

## Why this model

The Nissan Pixo is a fantastic little city car if you're on a tight budget and need something super cheap to run and easy to park. It's essentially a rebadged Suzuki Alto, so it benefits from Suzuki's reputation for simple, reliable mechanics. It's not going to win any races or turn heads, but it's honest, practical, and incredibly frugal on fuel, making it a solid choice for urban driving or as a second car.

## What you should pay

These cars are now at the very bottom of their depreciation curve, meaning you're buying into a segment where prices are unlikely to drop much further in absolute terms. You'll find plenty of examples under £3,500, with well-maintained ones fetching a bit more. Prices are stable for this age and type of car, so you're getting a lot of car for very little money.

## Which trim to buy

The Acenta trim is definitely the one to go for. It adds a few creature comforts like air conditioning, electric front windows, and remote central locking, which make a big difference to daily usability without significantly increasing the price. The entry-level Visia is very basic, and the Acenta offers much better value for money for the small price difference.

## What to check before you buy

- Rear suspension bushes wear
- Minor rust on sills/arches (check carefully)
- Exhaust system corrosion
- Occasional electrical gremlins (windows, central locking)
- Clutch wear on higher mileage examples

## Running costs

Running costs are a major strong point for the Pixo. Fuel economy is excellent, typically around 60-65 mpg, which at current petrol prices (approx. £1.45/litre or £6.59/gallon) works out to about 10-11 pence per mile. Road tax (VED) for models registered before April 2017 is very low, often £20 or £30 per year due to low CO2 emissions. Insurance is in the lowest groups, making it very cheap for new drivers or those looking to save money. Servicing and parts are also generally inexpensive.

## Key stats

- **Fuel Type**: Petrol
- **Horsepower**: 68 hp
- **Mpg**: 62.8 mpg (combined)
- **Reliability Score**: Good for its class, generally robust
- **Safety Rating**: 4-star Euro NCAP (2009)

## Trim comparison

| Trim | Price new | Price used | Key features |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Visia | £7,000 | £2,200 | CD player; Power steering; Driver and passenger airbags |
| Acenta | £8,000 | £2,800 | Air conditioning; Electric front windows; Remote central locking |

## Depreciation forecast

| Year | Estimated value | Retention |
| --- | --- | --- |
| 2026 | £2,800 | 100% |
| 2027 | £2,650 | 95% |
| 2028 | £2,500 | 90% |
| 2029 | £2,350 | 85% |
| 2030 | £2,200 | 80% |

You're already well past the steepest part of the depreciation curve with a Pixo. It's effectively in its 'sweet spot' for minimal further value loss. You're buying it for its utility and low running costs, not as an investment. Any further depreciation will be very slow in monetary terms.

Total value lost since new: 65%.
