## Verdict

- **Best value year**: 2020
- **Ideal trim**: HSE
- **Target mileage**: 30,000–45,000 miles
- **Max previous owners**: 2
- **Target price**: £19,500

## Why this model

The Jaguar I-Pace is a fantastic choice if you're looking for a stylish, sporty, and luxurious electric SUV. It drives really well, feels premium inside, and offers decent range for most daily driving. It was a groundbreaking car when it launched and still holds its own, especially now that used prices have become much more appealing. It's a proper driver's EV.

## What you should pay

The used EV market has seen significant adjustments, making the I-Pace a much more accessible premium EV. A 2020 model, which would have been around £65,000-£70,000 new, can now be found for around £18,000-£22,000. This represents a massive depreciation hit for the first owner, but a great opportunity for you. Prices are relatively stable now after the big drops, so you're buying at a good point in its depreciation curve.

## Which trim to buy

The HSE trim is definitely the one to go for on the used market. When new, the price difference was substantial, but now it's much smaller. You get all the bells and whistles like adaptive cruise control, a premium Meridian sound system, 360-degree cameras, and better leather seats, which really enhance the luxury experience without a huge jump in used price.

## What to check before you buy

- Infotainment system glitches (slow, freezes)
- 12V battery drain
- Charging port issues
- Suspension noises (especially air suspension)
- Door handle mechanism failures
- Occasional motor faults

## Running costs

As an EV, running costs are generally lower than petrol/diesel. Home charging on a standard tariff (around 28p/kWh) would be roughly 7-8p per mile. With a smart tariff like Octopus Go or Intelligent Octopus (around 7.5p/kWh overnight), this drops to about 2-3p per mile, making yearly costs very low. Road tax is free until April 2025, then it will be £195 per year. Insurance can be on the higher side due to its premium status and performance, so get quotes. Servicing is typically less frequent and cheaper than ICE cars.

## Key stats

- **Fuel Type**: Electric
- **Horsepower**: 394 hp
- **Mpg**: N/A (Range: ~220-292 miles WLTP)
- **Reliability Score**: Average for premium EV, some electrical and software glitches reported.
- **Safety Rating**: 5 Stars (Euro NCAP 2018)

## Trim comparison

| Trim | Price new | Price used | Key features |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| S | £64,495 | £17,000 | LED headlights; 18-inch alloy wheels; Touch Pro Duo infotainment |
| SE | £69,495 | £19,000 | Premium LED headlights with DRL; 20-inch alloy wheels; Powered tailgate |
| HSE | £74,495 | £21,000 | Matrix LED headlights with DRL; 20-inch diamond-turned alloy wheels; Windsor leather seats |

## Depreciation forecast

| Year | Estimated value | Retention |
| --- | --- | --- |
| 2026 | £19,500 | 100% |
| 2027 | £17,355 | 89% |
| 2028 | £15,800 | 81% |
| 2029 | £14,536 | 74% |
| 2030 | £13,518 | 69% |

You're buying the I-Pace well past its initial steep depreciation curve. The biggest drops have already happened, meaning you're getting a premium EV at a fraction of its new price. While all cars depreciate, the rate for the I-Pace from 2026 onwards is expected to be much more gradual, making it a relatively stable purchase for the next few years.

Total value lost since new: 30.7%.
