## Verdict

- **Best value year**: 2018
- **Ideal trim**: Sport
- **Target mileage**: 40,000–60,000 miles
- **Max previous owners**: 2
- **Target price**: £13,500

## Why this model

The Infiniti QX30 is a bit of a hidden gem if you're looking for a premium compact SUV with distinctive styling at a bargain price. It's essentially a Mercedes-Benz GLA underneath, sharing its platform, engines, and gearbox, which means you get solid German engineering with a unique Japanese luxury wrapper. Infiniti pulled out of the UK market, which has hammered its resale value, making it incredibly good value for money on the used market. It offers a comfortable, well-appointed interior and a refined driving experience, especially with the efficient 2.2-litre diesel engine.

## What you should pay

Due to Infiniti's withdrawal from the UK market, the QX30 has suffered significant depreciation. This is great news for you as a used buyer, as you can pick up a well-specced model for considerably less than a comparable Mercedes-Benz GLA, Audi Q3, or BMW X1 of the same age. Prices have largely stabilised now, meaning you're buying at a point where most of the value loss has already occurred, though future resale might still be a little slower than mainstream rivals.

## Which trim to buy

The Sport trim is the sweet spot for the QX30. It adds a more aggressive exterior look, larger alloy wheels, and often comes with a more comprehensive list of standard features like leather upholstery, heated seats, satellite navigation, and parking sensors. While the ride can be a bit firmer than the Premium trim, the added aesthetics and tech make it feel much more special without a huge jump in price on the used market. It offers the best blend of luxury, features, and visual appeal for your money.

## What to check before you buy

- Infotainment system can feel dated and clunky
- Some reports of minor electrical gremlins
- Potential for longer wait times or higher costs for Infiniti-specific body parts due to brand exit
- Firm ride, especially on Sport models with larger wheels

## Running costs

For the 2.2d diesel model, you can expect around 13-14 pence per mile for fuel, based on current diesel prices and its good MPG. Road tax (VED) for a 2018 model will be around £190 per year. Insurance costs will vary but expect to pay between £500-£800 annually, depending on your personal circumstances. Servicing costs are reasonable, as many mechanical parts are shared with Mercedes-Benz, making them readily available.

## Key stats

- **Fuel Type**: Diesel
- **Horsepower**: 170 hp
- **Mpg**: 52-57 mpg
- **Reliability Score**: 7/10 (Good, but brand exit impacts perception)
- **Safety Rating**: 5-star Euro NCAP (based on Mercedes-Benz GLA)

## Trim comparison

| Trim | Price new | Price used | Key features |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| SE | £25,000 | £10,500 | 18-inch alloy wheels; LED daytime running lights; Cruise control |
| Premium | £28,000 | £12,000 | 18-inch alloy wheels; Leatherette upholstery; Heated front seats |
| Sport | £31,000 | £13,500 | 19-inch alloy wheels; Sport body styling; Full leather upholstery |

## Depreciation forecast

| Year | Estimated value | Retention |
| --- | --- | --- |
| 2026 | £13,500 | 0% |
| 2027 | £12,000 | 11.1% |
| 2028 | £10,800 | 10% |
| 2029 | £9,800 | 9.3% |
| 2030 | £9,000 | 8.2% |

The QX30 has already taken its biggest depreciation hit due to Infiniti's market exit. Buying a 2018 model now means you're getting it at a significantly reduced price, and the future depreciation curve is much flatter compared to when it was new. You're essentially buying it at its 'sweet spot' where the initial value loss has largely stabilised.

Total value lost since new: 33.3%.
